MacMillan Mighty Hike in Chelmorton for Saturday September 2nd

Chelmorton, highest village in the Derbyshire Peak District,  will be a centre-stage feeding and rest zone for the 26 mile Mighty Hike that sold out and had to have a new start to accommodate the numbers.

Some 2,000 walkers, joggers and family strollers arrived in the village of Chelmorton for a Pit Stop of refreshments at Primitive Fields. After registering at the 21 mile mark they headed up Main Street to the delight of cheers and applause from supporters and villagers encouraging them to make the final hike to the Pavillon Gardens, Buxton. Their final destination waits with hot food and foot baths before they are shuttled back to their cars at Darley Moor.

Moved from Ashbourne, it starts at Darley Moor motorcycle race-track where there is ample car parking. The route winds up the White Peak, Derbyshire Dales and fnishes in Buxton.

Chelmorton MacMillan Mighty Hike camp will be in Primitive Fields, corner of Main Street and the Ditch. Ten portable toilets, a sixteen metre star tent, two gazebos, tables and trestles making a full support camp for the Mighty Hike Walkers.

Walkers are expected to arrive in Chelmorton from twelve noon on their route to Buxton.

MacMillan Mighty Hikes are a great series of one-day hiking marathons all over the UK, attracting entrants locally and from further afield for a real adventure.

Late route amendment due to the popularity of the event, it became necessary to look for an alternative start venue to accommodate the number of cars that were booked to use the all-day parking facility at Ashbourne.

MacMillan were very pleased to announce that Darley Moor Motorcycle Club have offered to host the start and parking on Saturday morning. The venue is close to Ashbourne, located in beautiful countryside, has a large flat grassed area for the marquee and best of all, has hard-standing car parking so no cars will get stuck in the mud! It also allows increased capacity of the event which is great for Macmillan.

There is plenty of free parking available at the start at Darley Moor Motorcycle Club so when you've crossed the finish line in Buxton to a hero's welcome and had a chance to enjoy a hot dinner and rest those weary feet, shuttle buses will be on hand to transport you back to your car. For those parking at the finish in Buxton, shuttle buses will run to the start line from 6am.
