Taddington Summer Festival 2014
Wicker basket Chelmorton to Taddington fete run. Taddington summer festival weekend, three miles from Chelmorton ; some sunshine amongst the clouds of rain and best v ictoria sponge cake.
It was time to take the Raleigh pedal scooter for an outing. All speed over the back road, side of Chelmorton Low to add some pedal to the little fifty cc motor and creep over the top with a last bit of engine power. Breaks on and pull hard for the decent into Taddington village, the Raleigh stops a little as you lean back and pull those break handles with white knuckles all the way to the handlebars. It's the wicker basket that must help steady the rear of the bike.
The church was dressed for flower festival in the theme of world war one, so many Taddington boys had been to the trenches, barbed wire amongst the flower displays for a deeply touching tour of the war history on a local scale. Hathersage band with a little help from Youlgrave and Hollinsclough played loud from under a rain sheltered gazebo and as sun shone between the showers it was English village at its best. The well board was themed World War One, a spectacular design of War Horse with soldiers mirrored even in the eyes of the horse, local petals on the clay boards and real horse hair.

Village fete stalls, tombola, plants and books, a small classic car show, the Raleigh scooter with its wicker basket stood proud in the classic car display. Tractors also on display, an old Oliver, Massey Ferguson, a Fordson and a David Brown crop master.
