Morgause from Chelmorton completes High Peak forty mile Ultra Marathon Sept 20 2025
White Peak, Dark Peak - a tour of the mountains of grit and limestone.
Stair-rod rain, but epic finish time in first-ever ultra atempt.
Storm warnings and stair-rod rain. Morgause Lomas from Chelmorton completes Ultra forty-mile Marathon around the High Peak. An Ultra with views - forty miles of hills, big big hills, including Eccles Pike, Rushup Edge, Mam Tor, climbs out of Castleton's Cave Dale, Deep Dale 1 and Deep Dale 2!
Forecast storm rain made for a wet race challenge. Morgause delivered an astonishing sub eight and a half hour in her first big mile ultra outing. Covering both White and Dark Peak as the route swapped between gritstone moor in the north to limestone dale in the south of this mighty route.
Saturday morning eight AM start in the Pavilion Gardens, climbing toward the Goyt in a route that turned for Eccles Pike, first of the big hills. Chapel and Rushup Edge Ridge for the shivering shale mountain Mam Tor. Descending to Castelton for a mega climb up Cave Dale, limestone slippery in the rain storm below the shadow of Peveril Castle. Tideswell town and sections of the Monsal Trail. Climbing again from Deep Dale 1 toward Flagg, high above Chelmorton for the final push on the long road.
Cheers at the Church Inn Chelmorton before Deep Dale two back to Buxton. The Ashbourne road rising into town, was it all uphill?
Finish at the Buxton Community school in stair-rod rain. Crazy support team chased around to bag adventure photos of epic time High Peak Ultra forty mile run.
