Starting eleven hundred feet above sea level, this is a running race with a view - Eleven hundred feet above sea level - a running race that has become a village event, with an army of local marshals and iconic wooden arrows to finish downhill in Main Street, get set for a sunshine morning at the top of the Peak District.

For 2025, runners followed the iconic Chelly wooden arrows in Sunday sunshine with a christening at the St John the Baptist church.

The Chelmorton Chase 2026

The Chelmorton Chase five mile running race. Starting outside Primitive Hall on Main Street, (SK17 9SH). Mixed-terrain shoes. Tracey, Lady of Hollinsclough will flagged the runners away for an eleven AM start. Registrations from  9:30 AM - just turn up on the day, no pre-booking needed.

The Chase is now open to anyone 16 and over.

A local village army. Extensive team of high-vis marshals at every turn, the iconic timber arrows marked the route to be sure.

Tracey, Lady of Hollinsclough starts the race, chequered flag marks the finish as locals cheer on Main Street after a downhill finish.

Club prize of One hundred pounds to the winning affiliated team – In 2025 the money went to Matlock AC.

Enter on the day from 9:30am. A race with a view. Passing the Church Inn pub for the Five Wells track, The race covers five miles climbing high out of the village with spectacular views from the High Stool limestone trail, a fast downhill road decent back to the village before returning down the Main Street. Buxton runner Andy Wilton holds the course record at thirty minutes thirty one seconds and villager Ian Hulse holds the locals' record. A double winner for the Dark Peak Running Club is Stuart Bond who took first place in 2008 and 2010. From 2010 the Joan Windross memorial shield has been presented to the first lady runner across the line. It holds more than a decade of names for lady running winners and is on display in the Church Inn pub. For 2025 Gemma Cox took the Windross Shield. Harry Mosley was first local and first over the line was Thomas Guliver for High Peak AC.
