Chelmorton team swap farming tools for microphones and guitars in Viva Las Buxton rock and roll to Carnival win. Summer town carnival in the heart of the Peak District, Buxton, crowds ten deep lined the roads for a return from lockdown in carnival magic. Pharaoh Tutankhamon, wells dressed for blessing the water, marching bands, steam tractors, floats from Scouts, Girl Guides and Mountain Rescue. Limestone was not the only rock in town. Chelmorton turned out their award-winning Elvis rock music float, hauled by red tractor in traditional Peak District village carnival entry. Chelmorton village, eleven hundred feet above sea level made the short drive to float parade for Saturday sunshine to rock the carnival magic. Chelmorton, red tractor, farm trailer, traditional square hay bale and sound by JBL, ‘Just Bloody Loud’. Chelmorton delivered the goods to repeat their pre-lockdown winning entry of Elvis to Carnival. Buxton carnival 2022, Elvis is in the room.
Elvis young and old, from ten years to eighty-five. Elvis rattled the shops windows in spring Gardens to rock the magic. Elvis rocked the railings to thank the high vis marshals who made it happen. Elvis on the marketplace in a spin at the Walzers for a dodgem drive to deliver ‘Devil in Disguise’. Judging in the sunshine as Elvis hit the high notes from ‘Hound Dog’ to ‘Return to Sender’. Blue suede shoes, Devil in disguise, Sweet Caroline and Love me Tender, Play it loud on the JBLs. Big win with a first prize silver rose bowl. Chelmorton Elvis First prize in the open class of Buxton Carnival, a float with reputation for interaction with crowds. ‘Put your hands in the air!’
Put your arms in the air for Elvis. Young Elvis, Old Elvis, every Elvis were on the wiggle to explode smiles in the bumper crowds. Buxton Spring gardens to West Road Arms and around the Market Place to finish down the Hollands Fun Fair. The perfect day of sunshine with a soft wind to keep Elvis cool, large and small, young old in white plastic suits, red shirts, giant buckle belts and wild gold rimmed gold sun glass lenses. More than just the carnival parade. Pit stops for Chelmorton float, not everyone makes carnival. Chelmorton Elvis parked up at Haddon Hall care home to bring carnival to residents a little frail for the walk to parade. Breiler Bar book shops for more rock music, B&Q car park and down hill past the shoe tree and cottage hospital. In the holding area for the parade was Starbucks who delivered carnival float food free of charge.
Chelmorton team making it possible, David Bagshaw prepped the best red tractor ever, Mark Gould sorted the bails, Elvis Andy lead singer, big reception in Main Street at Primitive Hall for float build. Bench seats for the not so young, cable ties and tape for the signpost of village life eleven hundred feet above sea level.
