Holland Fun Fair Silver Cup win for Chelmorton
Elvis returns 2019 July 13th
Eleven hundred feet above sea level in the heart of the Peak District in the single road linear village of Chelmorton for July sunshine ready for the town carnival of Buxton, Elvis returned for 2019 carnival float entry to scoop a third prize in open class before going on to win the Holland Fun Fair cup for most interactive float.
Elvis large and small, young and old rocked the roads of Buxton from Hound Dog to Blue suede shoes.
‘Arms in the air for Elvis from Chelmorton, Memphis Tennessee!’ The crowd applauded as carnival tourists ten deep reached for the sky.
David Bagshaw provided the smart red tractor, John Gould sorted the traditional square bales and the float-building party team tucked into a giant bacon sandwich breakfast at Primitive Hall.
Elvis in white, red and even black for a tour of the King from every year of his rock and roll Chelmorton float entry made the Brierlow Bar grass for a 2019 carnival photo on the A515 before the run to Buxton.
Unsung heroes on the pre-parking parade area opened their house to all float teams for tea and bacon rolls. Elvis was double bacon rolled by lunch time for the Spring Gardens beginning of an excellent year. Judges handed out third prize to Chelmorton for the top Open class entry. Then Chelmorton took the big win and bagged the Holland Fun Fair cup for most interactive float.
Forecast rain held back for best Peak District sunshine with crowds ten deep in Spring Gardens, Market Place fun fair was full of carnival tourists arms in the air for Chelmorton.
Chelmorton team, large and small, young and old rallied into convoy for the tea time trip back into Buxton, spinning and twirling into the rides of the Holland Funfair.
It's not over!, Chelmorton Festival starts Monday, wall building to beetle drive with a Saturday special street fair in Main Street.
Everything from tombola to tea party on the Ditch. The railway quiz returns and there is a big Chelmorton five mile race showcase for the Sept 22nd run later in the year.
